Granville Academy is a part of Affinity Learning Partnership. We are a Multi Academy Trust currently based in Staffordshire and Derbyshire. We consist of 3 Secondary Academies and 4 Primary Academies.

Our English department is thriving! The subject benefits from strong leadership and an outstanding group of teachers who are securing improved outcomes for our students. Our P8 within English was 0.22 with an A8 score of 5.04. Students achieved better than national standards with 77% achieving 4+, 71% achieving 5+ and 26% of students achieving 7+
Our curriculum development is key and as professionals we are constantly looking at how we efficiently and effectively implement the core knowledge and skills that empower our students to be successful within both literature and language.
We are invested in strong pedagogy in a supportive safe learning environment where teachers can teach because systems are strong; where students feel safe to make
mistakes, and teachers can select the most appropriate learning activities that enable students to learn well and succeed.
The Candidate
Within this maternity cover, we seek to appoint a dynamic and motivated teacher of English with an infectious passion for their subject and specialist subject knowledge to join us at Granville Academy. You will be part of a team supported by skilled and expert teachers and will receive excellent support and opportunities for development within the academy and across the trust.
You must be confident in the delivery of English at KS3 and KS4 and have the ambition and dedication to continue to support the development of the curriculum and wider curriculum in line with current practice and research in effective teaching.
You will be able to support the promotion of excellent standards of student learning, achievement, progress, attainment and behaviour through working effectively and collaboratively. You will be passionate about your specialist subject, recognise the importance and impact that this area of the curriculum has on a students wider life, on their future destinations and career prospects as English permeates the whole national curriculum and life.

The Faculty
The English faculty currently consists of 8 expert teachers who are all specialists.
We offer a strong ECT programme that supports retention and supports strong pedagogical practice.
Across Y7- 9 we utilise SPARX for homework, which enables our students to make high levels of progress and reduces workload. Within Years 10 and 11 we utilise Seneca.
The English Faculty aims to provide students with a worthwhile and broad experience, based around a range of Literature and non-fiction texts, across a wide variety of topics. Our aim is to develop the skills and practices required to prepare our students for GCSE success. It is our intention to promote high standards of language and literacy by equipping students with a strong command of spoken and written language, and to develop a love of literature by exposing students to texts from a widespread range of genres, cultures and ages.
GCSE outcomes are strong, with students exceeding the national averages at all headline measures.
We offer many local and overseas experiences for our students including trips to The Globe Theatre with our most recent experience being a trip to Poetry Live in Nottingham, where Key Stage 4 students benefited from listening to and asking questions to a range of poets.
We are fully committed to our enrichment offer which includes debating club, fierce women, poetry club, Carnegie Book Club (all led by our English team). The link to the full academy enrichment offer is here:
