Greg Hughes
Trust Leader for Digital Strategy
BSc (Hons.) in Astronomy and Physics, University College London / Postgraduate Certificate in Education, Secondary Physics/Science, University of Liverpool
“Working at The de Ferrers Trust has allowed me to develop my passion for learning technologies and become a global leader and advocate for change.”
I’ve been a physics teacher since 1990, teaching both GCSE and A level Physics and an advocate for harnessing ICT in Education for nearly as long, working with all types of schools. I’ve also been a Beacon Schools Manager, Assistant Science College Director and Head of Physics.
In 2005, I received the Salters-Horners A-level Physics Teacher of the Year award. I’ve worked alongside Birmingham Advisory Schools Service (supporting struggling inner city Science Faculties/Heads of Science) and Birmingham ICT Services (as an early adopter/researcher into Virtual Learning Environments, video conferencing and Interactive Whiteboards).
I am also an Apple Professional Learning Specialist, Apple Distinguished Educator, CEOP Ambassador, National Geographic Certified Educator and EdTech50 nominee (2020). I’ve been fortunate to work with over a hundred schools in the UK and overseas on digital strategy, leadership of education technology, STEM integration and several Erasmus+ research projects.
In my current role as Director of ICT, I lead the Trust ICT Technician team and develop our strategy for ICT infrastructure and developments, cybersecurity, learning technologies across the curriculum and 1:1 iPads.
Like a few other people born and raised in Liverpool, I also play guitar, write songs and grew up next to Penny Lane!
